Our Story

Lunasol began with a simple idea: wine is at its best somewhere between day and night, between the first glass in the sun and the last one under the moon.

The name joins the two. Luna, the moon. Sol, the sun. It is a reminder that the wines we love most are made by balance, not by force: warmth to ripen the fruit, coolness to keep it bright, and patience to let a vintage show what it has.

We found that balance on South Australia's Limestone Coast. Here, in the far south-east of the state, long sunny days give way to cold nights carried in on Southern Ocean breezes. Vines root down into ancient limestone and terra rossa soils, and the grapes hang slowly into autumn, keeping their natural acidity and clear, honest fruit.

From that coastline we make seven wines. Three whites, crisp and fragrant: Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris and Chardonnay. A Rosé that is pure fun. And three reds that grow in depth from a juicy, cherry-filled Pinot Noir to a bold Shiraz and a structured, savoury Cabernet Sauvignon.

Our approach in the winery is quiet. We pick for freshness, handle the fruit gently and use oak only where it frames the wine rather than hides it. Each wine should taste of where it was grown and be ready to enjoy, with the reds rewarding a few years of patience.

We care just as much about the land as the wine. Looking after our soils and water, and working with growers who share that view, is how we make sure the Limestone Coast keeps producing wines like these for a long time to come.

Above all, Lunasol is made to be shared: at the bar, across the table, on the shelf of a good local bottle shop. If you'd like to pour or stock our wines, we'd love to hear from you.
